Okay, so you are either gonna hate me or love me for this one. Let’s hope it is the latter one. The best healthy hot cocoa you will ever make it the most simple one. All you need is cocoa powder and milk. Yup, that’s it. Make sure your cocoa is unsweetened and if you care about fat, choose the lowfat milk, but personally I think milk is not a big enough ingredient in your diet to make a change in your fat intake. Anyways here is the recipe!
Recipe
– 1 tbsp cocoa powder
– 1 mug of milk
Instructions
- Scoop the cocoa powder straight into your mug of choice.
- Pour a small splash of milk and use your teaspoon to mix the milk with the cocoa powder. The two will not want to mix at first. The cocoa powder is dry and is seperating itself from the milk. This is why we are only using a splash of milk to make the two become one faster. Soon enough you should have a slightly thick but still runny mixture.
- Now is the time to pour in the rest of the milk and stir, then pour it into a sauce pan and heat it on medium on the stove. You can also do all of this in the microwave but the milk and cocoa blend way better when it is slowly heated.
- Heat it up for a few minutes and stir from time to time.
- Taste to see if the temperature is hot enough, then pur it back into the mug you made the mixture in and enjoy!
I started making this healthy hot cocoa cause I really wanted that chocolate flavour but I did not have any chocolate at home! Only cocoa powder and it would take to long and to much effort to bake a cake. So, I though of hot cocoa and simply just tried making it without adding sugar and I was quite baffeld. Sure it was not as sweet as normal hot choco I won’t lie, but it sugar in the milk made it really tasty. I also tried making a cold version and that did not work as well. The cocoa dissolves better in the milk when it gets heated so if you want to have it cold, just make a hot one and wait. You can of course alter the amount of cocoa powder to your own taste buds. Maybe you want even more rich dark flavour and you add another tablespoon or if you think it was way to strong and just want to use half. It is up to you! You create the healthy hot cocoa your way!
Cocoa powder is not an unhealthy ingredient like you might think. Cocoa powder makes chocolate and everyone knows chocolate is a treat. Well, cocoa powder has a lot of fiber (which is good for your digestion) and quite a lot of protein! But you will need to eat quite alot of cocoa powder to actually get all the protein.
Milk is also good for you with all the calcium and I would even argue the fat! You can make this recipe with any kind of milk substitute, almond, coconut or soy but I do not recommend it since you just can’t be classic true milk and all the other kinds are very processed and actually normally more calorie dense.
Let me know if you tried this healthy hot cocoa and I hope you enjoy!
