Meat Filled Hot Pockets

Want to make a snack that is a bit more filling? Looking for Meat Filled Hot Pockets, Savoury Pop Tarts, Mini Filled Pizzas or even Pierogies? This recipe can be called many things and I honestly don’t know which one is the most accurate. All I know is that these Meat Sauce Filled Breads are amazing and I want to share the recipe with you. If you haven’t read my blog post about my meat sauce recipe I suggest you go and do that first. These Meaty Hot Pockets are part of my Meat Sauce easy meal prepping. But if you are just looking for some tasty Hot Pockets to make then keep on reading!

Me and my husband LOVE these

Whenever I make them they get eaten so fast I always wish I made more. I actually made these just for me one time but my husband saw me making them and ended up eating more than half of the batch. So yeah, I feel pretty confident they are pretty good.

Another thing I don't buy anymore

I used to buy a ten pack of meaty hot pockets from the store. They were great to eat in the middle of the day when you don’t really want a snack or a full on dinner but just something in between. The hot pockets cost about 1 dollar each and had some suspicious ingredients I suspected were of low quality. So I decided one day to do what my sister does, make homemade ones!

So without further ado, here is the recipe!

Meaty Hot Pockets

Pair together with my meat sauce recipe to fill these amazing pierogies/hot pockets
Servings 10

Ingredients

Meat sauce

  • 0,4 batch Meat sauce

Hot pocket dough

  • 260 grams flour 5 dl/2.1 cups
  • 200 grams temped water 2 dl/0.85 cups
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried yeast
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg (For egg wash. Milk works if you don't have an egg)

Instructions

Make the meat sauce from my Basic Meat Sauce Recipe

Make the dough

  • Mix the flour and dried yeast and salt
  • Add 1 dl temped water while the machine is going
  • Add the olive oil
  • Add 1 dl temped water while the machine is going
  • Let the machine mix for 7 minutes
  • Let the dough rise for 30-40 minutes

Assemble the Hot Pockets

  • Roll out half the dough into a x bx rectangle
  • Use a pizza roller to cute four rectangles
  • Add the meat sauce filling on one side of the rectagle but still leave space at the edge
  • Fold the top over the filling
  • Push the sides together (don't ge too gentle)
  • Use a fork to fully seal the edges together and give a pretty finish
  • Add some egg wash over the hot pockets
  • Poke a few holes with the fork at the top of the pocket to let out steam
  • Bake in the oven for about 20 min at 200°C (392°F)
  • Take out and cool on a rack (do not leave on baking tray since the hot pockets can get a soggy bottom that way) with a towel over to keep the bread soft.
  • Freeze when completely cool (about 30 min) and enjoy later!

Notes

I actually use pizza dough for this recipe. It works really well and I use some egg wash to really give the hot pockets that crispy brown glow.

And that's it!

You can eat them right away (after they have cooled a bit of course) or do what I do and throw them in the freezer! These Hot Pockets are perfect as a snack when you want something really filling and delicious. I heat mine in the microwave on maximum heat for 1 minute, then cut in half and flip (to avoid a soggy bottom) and then heat up for another minute!

I encourage you to try different fillings and see what you like! I tried making these but with Chicken Pot Pie filling and you could make them with Taco flavour aswell. Your imagination is the limit.

Like the minced meat filling?

Use it for this lasagna recipe aswell! Don’t you just love when cooking is easy? Same meat sauce but different dinner ideas!
